Handmade or not?

I was just discussing with someone the other day about items, any items, that are handmade. My friend was telling me that people for some reason love the idea of something being "handmade". I was thinking about her comment later on. Do people really prefer handmade? Why, if so? Is it because care and time has been put into one particular product at a time? Is it because handmade makes it "unique"?

It never really occured to me before, but handmade is better because of both these reasons and possibly more. I know with each of the mother's bracelets or name bracelets that I make, I inspect every single bead that is placed on the wire. I make sure everything is just right. If it's a two strand bracelet, I make sure the beads on each row line up. Care and love of the work is put into each bracelet. And..uniqueness is an important quality for each bracelet I make. Anyone can go to the nearest mall and buy 5 of the exact same bracelet. But, when something is handmade with different children's names, different birthstones, different sizes, different bali beads, and so forth, that makes it special! Just as the children's names on the bracelet are special! I specifically try to make every single bracelet I make a little different whether it's adding one extra bead, or placing a bali bead in a different spot. I want each mother to have a "unique" and "special" bracelet that only she will have. And THAT is what makes handmade better!
